Wood of the Well

Wood of the Well: Imagined Carvings for Coventina is a video produced by English Heritage featuring contemporary woodwork created by Philip Luscombe, inspired by the many offerings made to Coventina. Little wood survives from the Roman period, and this allowed an artistic interpretation of what might have been. The artworks use patterns and imagery seen on the Roman objects, and only the kind of tools available to Roman craftworkers were used in their creation. Philip has speculated about what may have been lost, offering a different viewpoint on the surviving artifacts.

MP4 format, 7 minutes.
