Susan Cooper is an award-winning author loved by many generations. She has written for children and adults, as well as for the screen. She is perhaps best known for her five-part fantasy series The Dark Is Rising which weaves ancient Arthurian, Welsh and Celtic myths into the modern world. She was born in Burnham, Buckinghamshire, England in May 1935. She has been writing for well over thirty years. Her work includes books for children, books for young adults, books for adults, newspaper articles, screenplays for TV and cinema, as well as a Broadway play. She now lives in Connecticut, New England, USA.
I read the Dark Is Rising sequence and other books by Susan Cooper when I was nine, and loved them. The early scenes in the first book in the DIR sequence spooked me, the death scene in The Grey King made me cry, and the puzzle in Over Sea, Under Stone intriqued me. The DIR sequence was especially interesting as I was familiar with the legends that it's based on, and yet it is set in contemporary times. Susan's a really good author and I can't wait until my niece is old enough for me to read Susan's books to her. :) A film version of the DIR sequence has begun to be filmed and released; the first film is based on The Dark is Rising, which is the second volume in the series. I still haven't managed to see it, but I'm looking forward to it!

A fanlisting is a place for all fans of a particular author, movie, book, etc. to connect. To my mind, it's a great excuse to build a little tribute to one of my favourite authors. :) There are over 50,000 fanlistings in existence and the number is growing all the time. Some are simple fanlistings and some are part of a much bigger website. Find out more about the fanlistings phenomenon at thefanlistings.org.

The layout's title image at the top of the page was made by Mervi, and the photograph on the right (of Tal Y Llyn in Wales -- a location mentioned in The Grey King) was taken and manipulated by her.
